I am a consultant and investor in Nashville, Tennessee.
I started in music, earning a Bachelor of Music from Berklee College of Music before completing an MBA in finance at the University of Tennessee’s Haslam College of Business. Music taught me how to hear structure. Finance taught me how quickly structure turns into consequence.
I spent three years at Merrill Lynch building a book of business, then founded Kirk+Co as a capital advisory firm. The work expanded into private equity, complex financing, venture investment, and company operations. After my fund led the seed round in Midstream Enterprises, its board asked me to serve as CEO.
Across those roles, I kept finding the same failure hiding beneath different businesses: the company’s most valuable judgment lived in a few people’s heads. Capital could fund the operation, but it could not preserve that judgment or make it usable by the next person.
That is where Kirk+Co is now. I build AI systems companies own, shaped around their real processes, exceptions, evidence, and institutional memory. I am not trying to replace the people who know the business. I am trying to make sure the business does not lose what they know.
I also write about agentic systems, developmental AI, business operations, and creative production. The subjects look unrelated until you notice that each one asks the same question: how do you build a system that can adapt without losing the reason it exists?
Current mandate: operating, strategy, and systems work where institutional knowledge, ownership, and execution meet.
